MHSA Extends Charity Support
In the 2015/2016 year STARS monitored 4,200 industry sites every day to ensure worker safety. Since 1985, STARS air ambulance has flown more than 33,000 missions across Western Canada. The cost of an average flight is $5400 and the cost to operate each of STARS' six bases is $10 million annually. As a non-profit organization, STARS relies on community support to pay for fuel for its helicopters, the medicine and equipment used to treat patients and the skilled staff who put it all to use on each mission. STARS also fundraises to cover the cost of training and education, emergency communication, air craft maintenance and other support services required for them to operate 24 hours every day, 365 days a year.
STARS' vision is: “Saving lives through partnership, innovation and leadership” and their mission “STARS is dedicated to providing a safe, rapid, highly specialized emergency transport system for the critically ill and injured.”
You may have heard in the media that due to the economic downturn STARS has not been receiving as much financial support as they have in the past. STARS Vision and Mission is just as important as it has ever been, to each of us and our workers. You may never know when you may require their specialized services.
For the 25th Anniversary year of the MHSA, we are proud to support such an essential health & safety service.
Help MHSA make this a monumental year to remember!
